| How to Scrub the Vista Operating System Off Sony Laptops Posted: 05 Apr 2011 03:31 AM PDT Windows Vista operating system has not received very friendly reviews and comments. Users worldwide are not that thrilled with the operating system and in some occasions they feel frustrated when they see laptop have it as a default system. In these conditions the only thing you can do is remove the operating system and replace it with Windows XP or with Windows 7. But this requires some formatting to do and some software handling. So how to scrub Vista operating system off of a Sony laptop? In order to format your drive, you should follow some steps and some guidance and in this article that is exactly what you will learn. And without any more words, let's scrub off Vista of your Sony laptop.  The one thing you need is the alternative operating system you are going to replace Vista with (anything will work, including Linux, but not Apple's Mac OS in any case). Insert the installation disc in your computer and restart the laptop. When the message shows on your display, "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD…", press the spacebar and wait a few seconds until the installer extracts the files on the disc. When the first window appears, click Next and press the button saying "Install now". On the product key information page click Next and don't enter any information. On the "what kind of installation do you want" page, select Custom option and highlight the hard drive button on the bottom of the page. Now click the Format option and choose the NTFS option as well. When the format process is over, in order to exit the installation, click the X on top of the window. And this is how to scrub Vista operating system off your Sony laptop.  And now that you got rid of Vista and there is no operating system on your laptop, let's see how to install Windows XP over the Vista. You can't operate on your computer if there is no system installed. You need the Windows XP CD and the following steps in order to get it all done. First of all, insert the Windows XP CD in your laptop computer and restart it. Press any key to boot from the CD and afterwards press Enter to move from the initial screen. To accept the license terms, press F8. In order to delete the partition with Vista in it, press D and then press C to create a new partition for the Windows XP operating system. Select again NTFS and press Enter to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, enter the product key, computer information and network info as well.  And this is how you do it all in a few steps. Keep in mind that formatting will erase everything you have on that specific hard drive. So back-up data if you don't want to lose anything. Windows Vista requires a lot of resources and a minimum amount of RAM installed. In some cases people don't agree with this and they prefer uninstalling Vista. The newer models of Sony laptops come now with Windows 7, but as they are a bit more expensive than usual, it might be cheaper to change the pre-installed operating system with a newer and better version of Windows. |
